Fox Lane graduate Joey Grippi went into the Doug Parker Wrestling Invitational with a tough task ahead of him.
In order for the Springfield College junior to win the 141-pound weight class, Grippi would have to navigate his way through a series of seeded wrestlers. When it was over, the 2009 Fox Lane graduate was standing alone.
Grippi finished off his run with a 5-3 win over second-seeded Elijah Golding of Brockport in the final.
Teammate Derrick Longo, an Ardsley graduate, finished fourth in the 165-pound weight class. Springfield finished second to Brockport.
Following a first-round bye, Grippi posted a 10-2 major decision over Bernard Watson of the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Grippi added a 7-3 win over fourth-seeded Connor Bass of Stevens Tech in a quarterfinal match. He went on to easily handle top-seeded Sean Giblin of Rhode Island College in the semis, before punctuating his day with the title-match win.
