KATONAH, N.Y. The holiday season is partially known for creativity in the kitchen, and the arts can tag along for the ride. Keith Yerger, resident Sculptor of the Katonah Art Center, wants to give you and your children an interactive holiday activity that includes kitchen snacks.
Candy sculptures are a great family craft activity its a fun, inexpensive, delicious, and dare I say nutritious activity, Yerger said. Royal icing can be used to make creations stick this consists of meringue powder, confection sugar and the right amount of water. They will create the cement that can hold a whole candy house community together.
He continued, You can use traditional gingerbread or other construction materials such as, wafers, pretzels (to fashion a log cabin) and snow-covered Mini Wheats. Of course, don't forget other sugary products for those front lawns, masonry, mailboxes, fence or satellite dishes. Yerger suggests using marshmallows to create the wintery effect and wonderland of snow.
