BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Bedford Village Elementary School Association is hosting its seventh annual spelling bee from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5.

Participants are asked to sign in starting at 4:30 p.m. in the Family Room in front of the gym and be fed and seated on stage by 5 p.m. Once the competition has begun, late spellers will not be permitted to participate.

This year, the organizers have changed their practice lists to use grade level "Journeys" words in the case of grades 3-5 and "Foundations" vocabulary words for second graders. The first four rounds will be only words from this list. The following rounds will be words that follow similar spelling rules and increase in difficulty as the levels rise but do not appear on the lists.

Pizza, water bottles and snacks will be available for purchase beginning at 4:30 p.m.

All pizza must be pre-ordered and pre-paid. A pie of pizza is $15 and slices are $2.50. To buy pizza at the event, email Melissa Toole at mrgcjt@aol.com  After ordering, please send payment (cash or check  made payable to BVESA) in an envelope marked “Spelling Bee Pizza.” Leave it in the BVESA mailbox in the reception room.
