SOMERS, N.Y. – Gladys Fierstein, a longtime Somers resident, died Dec. 28 at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow. She was 86.
Fierstein was born Nov. 27, 1926, in Manchester, England, to Gladys Foster and Percival Arnold Helling. She met Bernard Fierstein while he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this year.
She and her husband lived in Irvington for 30 years before moving to Somers in 1982.
Fierstein is survived by her husband; two children, Larry Fierstein and Susan (Michael) Purdy; two grandchildren; and two cousins, Betty Forbes and Joan John, who were like sisters.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
