Monday, Oct. 22

Primrose PTA Book Fair: The annual Scholastic Book Fair Fundraiser takes place all week during school hours. Specially priced books include award-winning titles, children’s classics and current bestsellers. Primrose Elementary School, 110 Primrose St., Lincolndale.

Ballroom Dancing at the Library: 1 p.m. Learn steps, turns, leads, timing, rhythm and movement from professional dance instructor Frank Elia. The four-part Tuesday afternoon series ends Nov. 29. Tickets for the series are $20. Register at the Somers Library reference desk. 82 Primrose St. in Reis Park.

Memories of Old Put: 6 p.m. Joe Shiavone, author of several books about the old New York and Putnam Railroad (now a series of rail trails) recalls some of his memories and illustrates the talk with a slide show. Red Ribbon Week at Somers Schools: 7 p.m. The Somers Middle School PTA kicks off Ribbon Week with a lecture by Ty Sells of Youth to Youth International. The event is open to parents, faculty and staff. Somers Middle School auditorium, 250 Route 202, Somers.

Tuesday, Oct. 23

Primrose Book Fair Family Event: 5 to 8 p.m. The book fair takes place all week during school hours, with a special family evening on Tuesday. Primrose Elementary School, 110 Primrose St., Lincolndale.

Meeting of the Somers Board of Education: 7 p.m. The board meets in the library of Somers Middle School, 250 Route 202, Somers. 

Wednesday, Oct. 24

Open House at Kennedy Catholic: 7 to 9 p.m. Kennedy Catholic High School will hold an open house for prospective students. The school is at 54 Route 138 in Somers.

Zumba at Somers Community Center: 7:15 p.m. The class costs $5 and there's no need to sign a contract. Somers Community Center, 34 Hillandale Drive, Shenorock. For more information, contact Donna at 914-523-2893.

Thursday, Oct. 25

Primrose Book Fair Donuts for Dad: 7:15 to 8 a.m. The book fair takes place all week during school hours, with a special Donuts for Dad event Thursday morning. Primrose Elementary School, 110 Primrose St., Lincolndale.

Dog Park Fundraiser at Il Forno: Somers popular Il Forno Restaurant will donate 15 percent of all lunch, dinner and take-out orders of the day to the Somers Dog Park. You must present a coupon to qualify. Il Forno is at 343 Route 202 in Somers. Coupons are available at Il Forno, Somers Cleaners, La Moda Beauty Salon, Somers Animal Hospital, Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate and at the St. Luke's Harvest Festival. 

Edgar Allan Poe: 6 p.m. In keeping with the Halloween season, voice actor Alan Sklar will read Poe’s chilling tale “The Pit and the Pendulum.” There is no charge. Register at www.somerslibrary.org or call 914-232-5717. The Somers Library, 82 Primrose St., Reis Park.

Drug Crisis in Our Backyard: 7 to 9 p.m. A talk by expert Adam Bisaga, M.D. Plus, representatives of the Westchester County Narcotics Force and Yonkers Police Department will show you how to find the early signs of drug abuse and what you can do about it. Somers Middle School, 250 Route 202, Somers. 

Meeting of the Architectural Review Board: 7:30 p.m. The board meets at the Somers Town House, 335 Route 202, Somers.
