BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Don Scott has defeated Bruce Yablon in a special election for a council seat on the Bedford Town Board, according to unofficial and internal results.

The Westchester County Board of Elections has posted its unofficial results following what appeared to be a data error on the board's website. They show Scott, the Republican candidate, with a sizable lead over Democrat Bruce Yablon. Those results show Scott with 2,513 votes (56 percent), to 1,990 (44 percent) for Yablon. All 18 of the town's election districts have been reported.

Previously, the unofficial results on the county's website showed Scott with just 16 votes to none for Yablon. At the time, the results showed all 18 districts for the town as being reported.

Earlier, the Bedford Republicans' internal numbers showed that Scott, who is the Republican candidate, has 2,588 votes (55.92 percent) to 2,040 votes (44.08 percent) for Yablon, who is the Democratic candidate.

Yablon confirmed that he conceded to Scott and talked with him. He explained that the Bedford Democrats' internal numbers show Scott with approximately 2,500 votes to approximately 2,100 for himself.

Both camps' numbers excluded one election district, which was reported to have a machine issue.

"I could not have done this without the help and support of so many people," Scott wrote in a statement. "I thank them from the bottom of my heart. I can't wait to get to work for Bedford. I tip my hat to my opponent for stepping into the ring and running a spirited campaign."

Yablon, in an interview, attributed his loss to Scott being more known in the community. He also cited his opponent's previous bids for supervisor and for the Katonah-Lewisboro school board.

Addressing Scott's role, Yablon said that he has been very involved in the community.

The seat became subject to a special election when Chris Burdick resigned to become supervisor. Ironically, Burdick was elected to his current office by defeating Scott.

Peter Chryssos was appointed to fill the seat in the interim, according to town meeting records and local news reports.

Both Scott and Yablon are residents of the Katonah hamlet.

The seat will be up for a regular election next November.
