The incident began at about 1:30 p.m., when officers Ridgefield assisted police from Bedford in tracking down a 22-year-old man who had been in a dispute in that town, police said.
The man's vehicle was abandoned on O'Neil Court off North Salem Road (Route 116), and officers tracked the man to the property for Scotts Ridge Middle School and Ridgefield High, police said.
"We advised Ridgefield Public Schools to have RHS and SRMS students shelter in place during the search," police said, which meant students were held in the building but allowed to move from class to class.
About an hour later, the man was found on Craigmoor Road, police said.
"He was given medical attention and transported to Danbury Hospital by the Ridgefield Fire Department," police said.
Police form Bedford continued their investigation at that point, Ridgefield police said.
"There was no threat of violence to students and staff; however, we felt the shelter in place was necessary due to the police activity on school grounds," police said.
"We appreciate the cooperation of parents, students, school staff and administrators, and bus company personnel."
No further information was released on the case or any charges filed.
