An area man has been charged in the March murder of a trash-carting driver.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced on Friday that 32-year-old Heriberto Morales of Yonkers has been charged by a grand jury in a seven-count indictment that was released this week. He stands charged of murdering a Northern Westchester man who was working for a private carting company at the time of his death.

Timothy Conkling, a Montrose resident, was shot at approximately 10:50 a.m. on March 1 near Ashburton Avenue in Yonkers, police said.

After receiving the report of a shooting, arriving officers found Conkling on the ground in a lifeless state with a single gunshot wound to his head, Yonkers Police Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Morales was arrested on the day of the shooting. He has two previous felony convictions.

Investigators arrested Morales this week. He was arraigned on Thursday and charged with murder, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Morales is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, July 23 to answer the charges. He has pleaded not guilty. Morales is currently being held without bail at the Westchester County Jail.
