A student at Anne M. Dorner Middle School in Ossining was asked by a young man where she lived and if she needed a ride home Tuesday afternoon.

The man was driving an orange/red minivan, according to Ossining Schools Superintendent Ray Sanchez.

"Please be assured that our children are safe," Sanchez said. "Please remind your child- and all of our children about the importance of not interacting with strangers."

Ossining Police said they have officers walking the schools throughout the day and that police will be there when kids are walking home.

"You may not see police officers standing in the middle of the crowd, but trust us, we’re in the area watching," police said on Facebook. "We’re going to try to make this as normal as possible for the kids but we’re going remain vigilant and make sure that no one tries to harm them. Last, if you see something unusual, don’t be afraid to call us. We’re here to help."

In Pleasantville on Tuesday, a child was approached by a stranger, according to an email from Superintendent Mary Fox-Alter. Pleasantville Police are investigating.
