An alert has been issued to residents notifying them that from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning on Monday, Sept. 18, mains will be flushed in Katonah, Bedford, Bedford Hills, Stanwood and Cedar Downs, possibly leading to discolored water to those homes.

Flushing is expected to extend through Friday, Sept. 22. Officials said that discoloration of the water may be apparent at any time during that period. The discoloration will not reduce the safety of the water for domestic use, but residents have been warned to be wary in laundering clothes to avoid stains during those hours.

Additionally, customers in the Bedford Water District may experience short-term reduction in water pressure while the mains are being flushed.
