The chapter’s territory will now include the towns of Mount Kisco and Pound Ridge and correspond to the Westchester County Legislative District Number Two. The LWVNEW, a non-partisan political organization, will continue to provide voter education to the community through Candidate Forums, printed Voters Guides, and the electronic Voters Guide at this link. Voter registration efforts will continue as well; the League will register voters at Fox Lane High School this month and will staff voter registration sites later in the year at various supermarkets and other popular gathering places in the five towns.

In 2017, the chapter will commemorate the centennial of women gaining the right to vote in New York State. LWVNEW will also be sending a student to the Students Inside Albany conference for the third year in a row. Fox Lane junior Isabella Di Rende will travel to Albany in May to participate in the State League’s program, where students from all over New York come together to learn about state government and meet with their elected representatives.

“We expect to be extra busy this spring and summer as we gear up to present candidate information to voters in two additional towns and to welcome new members who may live in Mount Kisco or Pound Ridge,” said chapter president Susan Auslander.

The League grew out of the suffrage movement in 1920 when women gained the right to vote nationally.

Since 1976, the League has welcomed men as well as women into its ranks. Anyone interested in joining LWVNEW may contact Membership Chair Kay Tyler at kaykolman@optimum.net or email the League at lwv.blns@gmail.com.
