The food drive will benefit the Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry, which is run by 13 area congregations. The group served over 30,000 people last year -- nearly 270 households a week.
Roberta Horowitz, operations director for the food pantry, told Daily Voice that they were able to provide food to 465 families during this year's holiday distribution.
During the library's food drive, it will forgive $1 in standard fines for each unexpired nonperishable food item patrons bring in. This doesn't work for fines related to lost or damaged items, however.

In addition to providing the more typical food-pantry fare of mostly nonperishables, the Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry also provides eggs, bread, produce and frozen meats.
Besides the 13 congregations, the group is assisted by a wide variety of groups and individuals.
"I get calls and emails all the time, from folks that want to help," Horowitz said. "Families with kids, students doing community service, retired folks. We have a lot of volunteers that I can count on, every week."
The group also has partnerships with other organizations, like Chappaqua Cares, and area businesses, like Panera, which donates bread.
The food pantry is open 51 weeks a year, Horowitz continued. It has two distributions a week, from its location in the Mount Kisco United Methodist Church, at 300 East Main St.

The food pantry also offers nutrition education programs and helps residents register for SNAP and WIC, and works with a local hospital, to do flu shots and provide other nutrition information.
"We try to provide a well-rounded wellness program," Horowitz said.
