BEDFORD, NY--As the month of October slowly slips away, town elections come nearer, with November 8 set as the main event for the general election. The week of October 31 marks the final week before the election to get to know your candidates for Bedford Town Board.
Luke Vander Linden is the outside candidate, one who is looking for his first term on the Bedford Town Board. He is running as a Republican against Democratic incumbents Chris Burdick and David Gabrielson. Vander Linden has been on the outside looking in, and has seen ways the Bedford Town Board can improve, specifically on communication.
Just making communication more involved and accessible, Vander Linden said. The town government could come to your corner, maybe the A&P in Bedford Village on a Saturday afternoon and set up a table. Heres your supervisor, heres a few Town Board members.
Vander Linden is a fundraising consultant for non-profit organizations. He grew up outside of Dallas, TX until going to school at Fordham University. After studying media in college, he ventured to Channel 13 and was placed in the fundraising area. He has not left the fundraising side of business.
Vander Linden is confident that his area of expertise can help give the Town of Bedford a fresh outlook.
There needs to be a fresh perspective, or a fresh set of eyes, a new way of looking at things on the Town Board to kind of bring it back to where it used to be, he said.
According to Vander Linden, the town has moved toward a more bureaucratic way, which he wants to minimize by better communication and an open outlook on helping non-profits.
People want to live here because its a great small town, beautiful environment, but with people who are involved, and who do things and interact with each other and be a community. Thats why I wanted to run to begin with, he said.
