BEDFORD, N.Y. -- A group of onlookers gathered on the Village Green on Friday evening for the annual Christmas tree lighting in Bedford Village, a major occasion for the holiday season in the hamlet.
Spectators started off at the firehouse across the street, where refreshments were served. From there, they crossed to the Village Green, where kids were given numbered signs to hold up as part of the countdown to the tree lighting.
Once the tree was lit, attendees participated in several carols, which included "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."
The tree lighting was supported by the Bedford Village Business Association.
The Bedford Village ceremony was the first of three across the town of Bedford. A tree lighting in Bedford Hills, which will take place by the train station, is scheduled for Saturday , Dec. 5 at 5 p.m. Katonah's tree and menorah lightings are scheduled for Sunday , Dec. 6 at St. Luke's Church.
