BEDFORD, N.Y. -- A new basketball court at Bedford Village Memorial Park opened Wednesday night, amid celebration and a full moon.
A dedication, including a ribbon cutting and remarks from local officials was held at the facility. Featured prominently in the court’s center circle is the logo of the Bedford Village Chowder & Marching Club (C&M), whose $40,000 donation for the project was outlined in a large check.
Bedford Town Supervisor Chris Burdick addressed C&M’s longstanding role of supporting park projects, including a playground, soccer field and pool entrance.
“One project after the other,” he said.
Phil Longo, a C&M member who spoke, called the new place a “beautiful, beautiful facility.”
Burdick also praised his fellow Town Board members, as well as Bill Heidepriem, the town’s superintendent of Recreation & Parks.
“He gets it done on time, if not before schedule and below budget,” Burdick said about Heidepriem.
The work on the court is part of a master plan for the park, explained Brian McCabe, chairman of the town’s Recreation & Parks Advisory Committee. The plan’s purpose, he said, is to plan ahead for what facilities need replacement. He also noted its importance in working with groups who want to help.
The committee has nine members, McCabe said, with three for each of the town’s hamlets.
