After repairing the feeders, his suspicions of the cause were confirmed this evening when he spotted a black bear who restored the damage.

"It was in my back yard eating the bird seed," Lang told Daily Voice.

"Destroyed my bird feeders," he noted.

Lang, who scared the bear away by banging a pot, said that the sighting was not his first; a smaller-looking bear came onto his property last year. He described the latest one as being, "Quite a large bear."

The property is off of Alice Road.

It's the second reported bear sighting in Bedford Corners the last few months.

Bedford Corners resident Carla Bird spotted a black bear in her yard on the evening of June 6.

"Our bird feeder was almost empty but he still got to it and tried to eat the thistle bird seed," Bird told Daily Voice. "Our neighborhood homeowners association warned about the bear earlier that morning, I had just not pulled them in yet."

Bird's residence is near Route 172 and McClain Street, and near the Mount Kisco town line. A sighting prior to that occurred on Knowlton Avenue, a near by street that is on the Mount Kisco side of the border.

Bird added that the bear went into a nearby wooded area, and that police told her to just scare the bear away as a response.

There have been scattered bear sightings in Dutchess, Putnam and northern Westchester counties as well as Connecticut since the summer, state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and police departments in the area have reported.

DEC officials advise the public not to approach bears. Homeowners are encouraged to keep garbage cans closed or in sheds and garages, regularly clean barbecue grills and not leave open food sources -- including bird feeders -- in their yards.
