Katonah Group Raises Money for Concert in September

Members of Katonah Live are hopeful that continued community visibility and recognition will gain them the money needed to host live musical performances for the Katonah Fall Festival next month.

Katonah Live, which was organized about a month ago, is a group dedicated to bringing live music to the hamlet. Kelly Miller, one of the founders of the group, said she was moved to do something because of the difficulty her children, who are musicians, have had finding venue to perform in.

Although the gazebo near the Katonah Metro-North Train Station has been used in the past, Miller said that police have expressed safety related concerns due to presence of motor vehicle traffic.

“I just love music and I love my kids and I love this town,” Miller said. “It’s easy to put together these small events at the gazebo, but we need something slightly larger so we can include more of the community and more of the town.”

The group launched a kick-off fundraising cocktail party at Noka Joe's in Katonah last week. The event raised $3,000, which is about half the amount needed for the group to stage its first big concert at the Fall Festival on Sept. 24.

Wheeler said the group plans to get stage and place it next to Peppino’s Ristorante, in Katonah, and hold live performances.

The bands performing are the Folkadelics, the PitchBlak Brass Band, Hot in the Pocket and the Drew Bordeax Group. All four groups have local ties with Bordeax being a Fox Lane graduate along with Alison Sheer, who is a member the PitchBlak Brass Band.

Miller said groups like the Katonah Chamber of Commerce , the Katonah Museum of Art and the Katonah Business Improvement Society support the Festival.

“Everyone knows somebody,” Miller said. “The core group of people are really well connected locally.”

Still, Miller said the group still has some work to do if they want to get the concert going in September.
