BEDFORD, N.Y. -- The Charis Chamber Voices, under the direction of Maestro Arthur Sjögren, will bring the ceremonial music of Queen Mary to life at an event dubbed “A Royal Affair.” Accompanied by a brass ensemble, the group will perform music from the 16th century to the 20th century next weekend in Bedford and Mount Kisco.

The Charis Chamber Voices is a collection of singers dedicated to providing the highest quality vocal performances since 1994. Their leader, Sjögren is a resident of Redding, Conn., and has an international reputation as a director, musical editor and frequent guest conductor at European festivals. He was recently invited to conduct the Pennsylvania All State Choir made up of 160 high school singers in a concert at Wyoming Seminary in Wilkes-Barre.

Sjögren founded the Pro Arte Singers in 1974 and is an expert and lecturer on 20th-century Scandinavian choral repertoire. In addition, he has conducted workshops for the American Guild of Organists in White Plains and Hartford, training church choir directors. He has been a member of the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C., for three years, and is also a musical editor with several publications to his credit.

The choral director of New Canaan High School in Connecticut, he directs a vocal music program involving more than 200 students including a 24-member Madrigal Ensemble. He was educated at Westminster Choir College, Indiana University, Peabody Conservatory and the Vienna Academy of Music and has served on the faculties of Harvard University, Barrington College and Westminster Choir College.

Together, The Charis Chamber Voice and Sjögren will bring the sounds of Tudor England to the Presbyterian Church of Mt. Kisco on March 16 and to the Bedford Presbyterian Church at the Village Green on March 17. Both shows will be held at 4 p.m., and tickets cost $25. Tickets can be purchased here .
