KATONAH, N.Y. -- Strawberries were all the rage in Katonah on Saturday, June 21.

The Katonah United Methodist Church held its annual strawberry festival, which had been a longstanding tradition in Katonah before going dormant. Church members revived the festival a few years ago, welcome news for strawberry enthusiasts throughout the area.

Festival-goers listened to music while eating strawberries with pound cake, ice cream and whipped cream on the front lawn of the church at 5 Bedford Road.

The strawberries were obtained from a farm in Somers while the ice cream came from King Kone in Somers.

"There's a lot of love here," said Barbara Coffin, who helped revive the strawberry festival. "This is a community event that brings people together and helps raise money for our church."

Coffin said she prefers her strawberries plain or on top of ice cream.

Her daughter, Leeann, helped organize this year's festival. She said the strawberry festival is easy to sell.

"Everybody loves strawberries," she said, adding that she loves strawberry short cake.

The church helps with the community center, the Appalachian Service Project, A Home, among many other organizations.

"We try to help as much as possible," Leeann Coffin, the church's secretary, said. "We're a small congregation but we always have enough people. We're very warm and family friendly.
