The business was sold to local couple Mitchell and Lynn Samberg, who closed on their deal on Monday.

The restaurant closed on Sunday, Mitchell Samberg explained. It will reopen under a new name, which is called Bedford 234. The reopening is expected to take place some time in February.

Lynn Samberg said the food will be "farm to table" and described the offerings as "sophisticated comfort food."

The Sambergs have lived in Bedford for about 17 years. They have three children, two in college and the youngest a ninth-grader at Fox Lane High School.

The closure of Meetinghouse, which is in the Bedford Playhouse building, happened on the same day as the movie theater next door, according to Mitchell Samberg. The closure of the theater is the result of operator Bow Tie Cinema's decision to leave. Asked about the timing of the closures, Mitchell Samberg said it was a coincidence.

Discussing the future of the adjacent theater, both Mitchell and Lynn Samberg expressed interest in John Farr's concept, which involves converting the space into something along the lines of Pleasantville's Jacob Burns Film Center. Farr's group, which is called Friends of Bedford Playhouse, is seeking to raise $2.5 million in pledges by March 1 to fund the concept.

On its website, Meetinghouse has a farewell message thanking its customers.

"As we move on, we hope you remember good meals, good music, and -- most of all -- good times shared with family and friends," the message states.

According to Bedford Magazine, which first announced the change on its Facebook page, Meetinghouse opened in 1998 under the ownership of Penny and Joe Paglia, along with Nancy and Shawn McLoughlin.

Bedford 234 already has a website, which is available here.

"Coming soon to the village square, Bedford 234 is a purveyor of casual, rustic, farm to table cuisine from Chef Tom McAliney," an announcement on the website states.

The restaurant's address is at 635 Old Post Road.
