Hordes of people could be seen pounding the pavement in Katonah Friday for the hamlets annual Sidewalk Sale.
Stores around the hamlet have set up tables outside on the sidewalk loaded with items available at reduced prices for the event, which is organized by the Katonah Chamber of Commerce. The event will last until 5 p.m. Saturday.
Civic organizations are also using the event to recruit volunteers and promote community awareness about their missions.
Were just here to get the word out and get women interested, said Kate Horn, a member of the Junior League of Northern Westchester. People have been busy, so we havent had to many stop and sign their names on our list. But people have shown interest and it has given us an opportunity to tell people who we are.
Shawna Starr, manager of the Eiluj Beauty Lounge in Katonah, said the area was busier than usual. Her shop is offering $55 facials that can be purchased and used any time during the year.
Its been steady, Starr said. Its not as hot as it was last year, which is nice.
