Great job by Police Officer Ritchey, I was happy to see the town honor this true hero. I hope to see him patrolling the town for many years to come, we are lucky to have men like him serving the town. View Comment
It's great to see Chief Ryan taking such a proactive approach to domestic violence. Police chief's in neighboring towns should follow his lead. View Comment
Brutus - Doing a little research, it's my understanding that the youth officer grant is only for a year, and not a given for future years. Also the youth officer is only paid while in the school, the rest of the time like the 6 months of training,is paid for by the town. Add medical benefits and vacation, it's hard to believe that you really think adding full-time employees was a prudent move for the taxpayers, time will prove you wrong.
As with the highway cuts, it's pay me now or pay me later. I guess the current board members don't plan on being around to address these concerns in the future. View Comment
Not maintaining our roads, and adding full time employees to the police department payroll, is kicking the can down the street. The current town board can believe they are fooling the taxpayers, but time will expose these poor decisions. The taxpayers, and future board members will have to deal with these irresponsible choices in the future. View Comment
Mr Deputy Supervisor,
In these hard times did it make sense to add two full time police officers, adding health, vacation, and sick time benefits to the payroll. This does not appear to be a wise move with a tight budget. Where's the respect for the taxpayers! View Comment
From my understanding only one position is covered by the grant, and the grant is based on a year by year renewal. It is also my understanding that it is uncertain if the school is willing to contribute to the youth officer salary in the future. As for the other position in the Police Department, this position will be funded by the taxpayers. In the case of the Police Department, the town is adding an expense that it's not certain on how it is going to pay for in the future. This appears to be an ill advised move, and one that the members of the town board will have to answer for in the future. View Comment
With the financials not looking good for 2013, and with increase in health care and pension costs, was adding 2 full time positions to the Police Department a wise move at this time. The taxpayers will be on the hook for this and other poor decisions made by the town board. Government needs to be fiscally responsible, and needs to look for ways to save money, and not to increase the tax burden by people pursuing personal agendas. View Comment
