If ever there was a time to REALLY watch what these guys have to say and promise to accomplish. The County of Westchester is in such a state of total disarray and chaos, we the people, MUST make good choices. Listen carefully! Both have records to check out so make sure you know how they've voted in the past. If you don't like their records, let them know!!!! Promises are not enough this year. We've learned that from our Washington Wanna-Be's
And it also appears that when they began their slippery slide down and stopped stacking shelves, they also stopped cleaning the store. Hope the board of health is on top of it. I don't believe for a minute it's the "poor economy." l I think the charges against the owners are awful if true. They need to pay up and then shut up. Croton deserves so much more than this kind of operation. Zetinia owners should pack up their remaining stock - donate it to the Croton food bank and get out of Dodge!!! View Comment
I fail to see how EaglesFan1 or any of the other responders can speak to why either Jenkins, Kaplowitz, or Perez threw their Democratic colleagues under the bus. Perhaps Jenkins and Kaplowitz did so because they knew something we didn't know. But it certainly doesn't sound valid to speak for the reasons unless you were there at the meetings and listened to the arguments. I'm disappointed in Michael Kaplowitz. I've worked very hard for his campaigns over the year s and don't understand what his problem is now. He sure has heck has caused a whole lot of problems for the democrats on the board with whom he supposed to work. It was a democratic party regulars and workers who elected him again and again and to have him desert us now is ..... ?????? well - enough said. Perhaps Mike wants to run for County Executive???? Anything is possible and everything falls back on the shoulders of us - the taxpayers! View Comment
Michael, Michael, Michael .... what's happening to you? Where are you hoping to go with acts like this? Better be certain you're not shooting yourself in the foot and certainly not the hand that feeds you! ! View Comment
I'm not weighing in on the right or wrong of this appointment. I don't know the details nor have I looked at official reports. However, Richard Nagle is an experienced first responder having served for many years with the Croton Fire Department. He is al professional and an extremely knowledgeable man. Croton is lucky to have his contributions to what appears to be a serious problem. View Comment
I'm pleased to welcome any new venue that encourages honest and open debate on issues and events relative to my home town. Current blogs for our community are terribly biased and present only views and comments compatible with those of the blog editors. Any constructive comments or disagreement with those views are not published. Such tight, myopic censorship obstructs open and honest debate and is therefore worthless. I sincerely hope this blog will publish opinions derived from facts and not hearsay. and rumors. View Comment
It was an excellent debate. Both men did a good job. Obama however, captured the true essence of the issues while Romey continued to stretch the truth thinking that most of the viewers would be won over by his "charm". He skirted around the important ones and fabricated his answers to make himself look in control. He was an actor and came across as such.... no sincerity.... no commitment. His private, elitist education trained him well. Obama on the other hand was professional, strong and commanding and challenged Romney on every one of his exaggerations and misstatements. Watching, one could see Romney begin to squirm and fudge even more dramatically. If any change at all, I believe it would be people moving from Romney to Obama. View Comment
All of the above are driving my support of Obama. He has a proven record of things achieved during the past 4 years despite obstructionists in the house who stated early and often that they would "never approve ANYTHING proposed by the Democrats." His approach to foreign policy is commanding yet aware of long term problems if the wrong move is made. Romney's "I'm the Boss" approach is reactive and dangerous. Obama respects the middle class and will continue his work for the underprivileged whom Romney would just as soon "write off". Obama has made his support of health care for all and equality for all Americans very clear with his Obamacare and not just the very wealthy.Romney's money speaks for him and his waffling back on forth to tell us things he thinks we want to know scares the hell out of me and makes me mistrust his commitment and honesty. It's clear he wants to win any way he can and isn't above lying to the American people to get what he wants! View Comment
If only we could all get our facts straight it would be a great day!
1) Westchester County Legislator has nothing whatsoever to do with or for Clroton. His supposed support for Kevin is worthless.
2) Kevin did NOT say he was against owning the Gouvea property. He reiterated EXACTLY what the Mayor and Trustees have said from the get-go... if there was no benefit to Croton to own it they were not interested in acquiring it.
3) Kevin worked hard campaigning but then why not? He loves campaigning and it is like a game to him. His whole message is "vote for me - I'll focus on keeping your taxes down" ....BUT and this is a huge BUT .... he hasn't a clue as to what's involved, nor has he given voters any idea of what he would CUT in services to reach his professed goal.
I will be voting for Ann Gallelli and Andy Leavitt View Comment
Actually I believe the Croton Board has been able to keep the tax rise in Croton well below that of neighboring communities. It's been with constant focus and careful attention to preserving Croton's rich history while working toward our future that they've been able to accomplish this. The village has never looked more appealing (think new sidewalks, summer plantings, Elliott Way, Croton River Walk, and last but not least the extraordinary plans to aesthetically improve our multiple shpping areas .... think the Harmon revitalization project.
Croton is a special place thanks to its many volunteers and the current board.
Ann Gallelli, particularly, has been a strong leader to date. View Comment
Some great opportunities here ... don't let anyone tell you "there are no jobs out there" .... pick your self up off the floor and apply .... it may be the beginning of a new day/week/month/year/life for you! View Comment
Does anyone else see the absurdity of a company with 8,500 employees being able to call out 5,000 managers to cover for striking union members? Do the math. That's pretty darn close to 1 manager for each employee! And we pay and pay and pay ! View Comment
We're all getting crazy these days because of dishonest, sneaky and sleazy politicians. Because of the rampant dishonesty and self serving crooks, no one trusts our elected officials and volunteers to be open and honest any more. I'm not suggesting we allow them to play loose and fancy with our money but I am paying tribute to the endless list of good people who have given freely of their time and energy to the betterment of our community. I would hate to see them discouraged and burned out in their community-minded efforts to make our hometowns better places. Let's not paint all public people and events with the same brush as we do the sleazy public offenders. What could be a more fitting and selfless project that the memorial to the heroes of 9/11. The joint efforts of 3 towns and villages with 3 separate attorneys overseeing the agreements are proof enough for me. It's time to move forward. View Comment
I'm surprised and disappointed that 3 board members, (Lindau, Sloan and Farrell) would vote against funding their share of the 9/11 memorial. Sure, it's to be erected in Croton on the spectacular Croton Landing Park with it's magnificent views of the Hudson as far north and south as the eye can see. As far as being more to contribute than the smaller hamlets, it's my understanding the contribution amount was based on population. That seems fair and appropriate. Please, Ann, John and Frank, re-evaluate your thinking and call for another vote. I'm certain you were not thinking long term when you cast your negative votes.. View Comment
I used to tell my kids they could go anywhere in Croton as long as they could "walk there." Some places were clearly off-limits (Silver Lake in the spring when waters were rushing, i.e., the RR tracks, Croton Dam, etc and they knew where they were ! But certainly NOT the playgrounds or fields near CET. God help us all ! View Comment
There is no one more qualified than Ann Gallelli to tackle and wrestle the many complex issues facing this diverse community. Ann has given us more than 25 years of dedicated and tireless energy . She's smart, fair, innovative and knowledgeable and has the unique ability to work with people of all persuasions. Thank you Ann for always keeping your eye on the goal .... what's best for Croton.
Andy Levitt is a very exciting newcomer to Croton politics. He's an attorney with fantastic listening skills and is extremely open minded and direct. He will always tell you exactly what he thinks with no waffling back and forth. I welcome his bright new approach and his fearless and aggressive conviction to beliefs. He made shrong arguments in support of the recent Harmon revitalization proposal with self confidence and determination. He will be an energetic and vital contributor to our governing board. Thank you Andy. View Comment
The outpouring of support and concern for 1) Lisa and 2) the shoppe was tremendous. Friends and relatives stepped in to work with Lisa's staff to get the Blue Pig up and running full speed ahead. Lawyers, doctors, residents, every day citizens moved right in to make ice cream from Lisa's special all natural recipes and served the public after the Board of Health declared the shop clean and pure and ready to go again. When we told Lisa about the "Croton rapid response team" to her emergency she sighed deeply and even managed a smile as she slid back into her drugged sleep. She was so worried about not being able to serve the wonderful attendees at Summerfest this weekend. But be assured the Blue Pig will be opening and your favorite flavors will be plentiful...... God Bless Lisa! View Comment
