The board is backing this guy up?? There are 50 reasons why Jerry Hocman should be replaced. The distraction alone is enough. Why on earth would a school district be the focus of such drama? The law suits, the failures in scores, the inflated budgets, racial tension out of mid-air?? He should go into politics and get the HLL out of this school district. The board is a disgrace for supporting him. They ran him out of his last few posts, how did we get him? - just google his name you find out some interesting stuff. Nice job BOE board -- nice job! PLEASE-PLEASE get us another superintendent for the district. Mr Hocman is a failure. The board is a failing for supporting him. He is divisive, and ignores concerns - and oh by the way, the district scores have dropped. HOW MANY REASONS DO WE NEED TO GET HIM OUT!!!?? View Comment
I respectfully submit that you people are out of your minds? And Hochman was one of the brain children? What a surprise. If he is involved, you know it stinks to high heaven.
GET TO KNOW them, the article says: the trauma, the small spaces. Trauma for me was getting up at 5am for 9 years to get to work on time, to afford a home and a car. Trauma was working in a nasty Bronx warehouse in my HS years, sorting cans for minimum wage to earn a few $ (which i paid taxes on). Now they refer to me, or people like me, as racist or privileged. Small spaces? I lived with 5 people (wife and 3 kids) in a home with one tiny bathroom for 7 years (just a few years ago). I never looked for help – and was happy as heck. Trauma is paying a babysitter every time you leave the house, unless of course the school district wants to pick up day care costs. Trauma is paying HUGE taxes from my hard earned money to pay for other people I do not even know. Bracco feels we need to help those with crisis - as if nobody has ever had crisis except illegal immigrants. Let’s put in a few more pre-K programs so nobody needs to take responsibility for their own children. Maybe we actually start meeting them outside the delivery room, and the taxpayers can care for the children from birth. However, we give the program a really cool and progressive name and create another paid position to oversee it - heck, hire a convicted felon to run it.
Here is an idea - Teach my kid how to read and write and add -- Teach responsibility, teach the law and how to abide by it, offer help - but balanced help, not at the expense of others. Spending other people’s money is all you are good at.

"the LADY is right", Gertrude -- now what? You applaud the superintendent, but you pulled both of your children out of the school district this year. Not good enough for you, perhaps? It is easy to talk a good game, but practice what you spew.
"God has given you one face, and you make yourself another"
Jerry Hochman should not be in charge of a school system. All it takes to find out a little these days is to google his name --- his contract was NOT renewed at his prior job. Did anyone wonder why? Was he vetted in the least bit? I think not, you got what you asked for. I found this CLIP from an article from 2004 quite telling - Hochman was defending the Pelham, Mass school district choice of 'The Vagina Monologues' for the school play. Just the guy i want influencing thousands of children - HE HAS TO GO!
'The Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee approved the performance of the controversial play at the Amherst Regional High School in Amherst, Massachusetts. Although the school committee believes it is appropriate and even necessary to prohibit plays that they feel are slurs against certain ethnic groups (even if they are not; the heroes of "West Side Story" are also Puerto Rican). Conversely, they also feel the need to promote slurs against certain genders and religions.
The School Committee hearing featured those who advocated the play including the District Superintendent Jere Hochman, and those who objected to it. Comments from the advocates included one Rob Okun, who was quoted in the Daily Hampshire Gazette as saying, "The play offers a unique perspective on female sexuality by ''taking it out of the...pop culture and putting it into the educational context…probably one of the most important steps in the gender healing...work that we are championing.
As if the antique store has any business commenting on ANY other business in town. That place single handedly drags the look of Pound Ridge/Scott's Corner into below average territory.
With friends like that, who needs $1.8 million in new dumpsters? View Comment
How is it possible that the Democratic ticket refuses to be interviewed on 3-5 really simple questions? I guess they saw how DePalma answered her questions and did not dare let Dan answer anything UNSCRIPTED. It is obvious that every move and comment from the Dem ticket is very well calculated - only coming from press releases and pre-scripted articles. They are unable to think on their feet regarding anything and are often unprepared. I will have to make time to get to the DEBATES this coming Tuesday, as they should be very telling – if they show up. And, while I have been critical of this author in the past for various things, it is extremely unfair that he be put in this position of interviewing only 1 of 2 candidates. His questions and postings on the election are right down the middle and two weeks in a row he is forced to note that ‘nobody would answer my calls’ --- the Dems should be embarrassed by their actions. Ducking a small town writer who asks a few questions? Can you say ‘backbone’? I can only imagine if something urgent comes up in town and they are at the helm – will we need to Skype them at a Florida condo or track them down at the tennis court? View Comment
One more thing - for Ms Boak to say the Voice is one-sided is crazy. If anything, it has been supporting her campaign very strongly - posting every article and photo opp possible in past 18 months. Now she accuses bias because it is not going her way?Vitriolic comments? These commoners have been coming from both sides, Ms Boak. And, they are not 'to the readers' they are 'from the readers'. Some have been nasty from both sides, certainly, and we will be better off after it is over. But maybe people want answers, and are concerned about the town. Have you considered that? Maybe they want a candidate with no conflict of interest, or a candidate with answers. Or, they want a candidate who thinks of other things besides spending money. People are ticked off, in case you have not noticed. Ticked off at government in general. You have had numerous opportunities but do not answer the concerns. Instead of claiming bias, listen to the comments and respond with answers. If you want to be supervisor, hear what people are saying - even if it sounds a little mean. Supervisor is a public servant position and tax payers have a right to be heard. This job requires some humility which Ms Boak lacks, in my opinion. In the case of the pool house, you have thrown everyone under the bus in your quest to be in charge - your opponent Dick Lyman, your running mate Dan Pasckes, and even one of your greatest supporters Mr Best. Now you try and complain about the Voice being bias - why, because a few people disagree with your ideas? Instead of ducking an interview, use it to explain why you voted down the deer management because of personal reasons. Instead of repeating the same calculated speech over and over, respond to concerns about why you have a huge conflict of interest and have refused to address it. Instead of posting just the 'yummy-pretty' ideas about fixing up the town, answer questions of what are the 'real' costs of the proposed TEP project - like long term maintenance, and loan interest, and who will get the required additional salaried position of project manager. Rather than complaining about a writer, take the opportunity to tell us how you will resolve the waste water issue which will help Scott's Corner accommodate further business. Explain how we can be like neighboring New Caanan or Bedford with less tax base, less residents and different environmental issues. You have so many great opportunities to hear the people and respond, but have chosen to speak only your calculated 'message'. I fear you have been given very poor advice in this campaign. Listen and respond to the people about their concerns, not yours. View Comment
Is this not an absolute replication of ms Boaks opening comments at the debate? Apart from the first paragraph, where she poorly explains her 'no-show' interview policy and unfairly accuses the Voice, of bias, it is word for word the same. It is also the same 'word for word' that was found in the record review, when she posted a 'letter to editor' endorsing herself. The letter (3) is robotic, calculated and void of any detail. There is no explanation of how she will get things done - nothing. Read her fine print - she wants to spend more money, which will raise taxes. And, none of which will equate to further business in town. Pipe dream. She is a great neighbor and PR resident. But a poor candidate for supervisor. I look forward to Nov 6. View Comment
After the showing at the debates you think she would be dying to get some content out there. You are a patient guy LB - you should be slamming them for the no-shows. Unacceptable that they will not answer your simple inquiries just 10 days before the election. And for someone who loves her name in the paper, and Voice and every other media, it is so very curious the avoidance of the interview. Very telling in my opinion. It will all be over soon, thankfully. I look forward to your recap/opinion of the debates. View Comment
oh wait -- i forgot the one about 'Ali, you stated in the paper that the supervisor should be a full-time position, with full time salary, please explain'...
She claimed she never said that, however she was quoted in the RR having said exactly this...(i have a copy)
She has selective memory much like a full blown DC politicion. The residents of PR deserve better. View Comment
I was there, and saw it the other way. Ali Boak was reading (yes - reading - even the parts about herself and background) her opening and closing statements which, even after the rehersal and preplanning, were void of any details. It seems to me a HS student giving a book report. Even her attempts at 'passion' fell flat. Ms Boak is absolutely unqualified for the job. Did you miss the part when she was unable to respond about her current 'conflict of interest' issues and obvious ethical challenges regarding the PR partnership and Green Streets? She thinks nobody cares? And did you miss the first direct question about waste water where she went into a rehearsed answer about 'change' and revitalizing the town, and her favorite 'vibrancy', etc - but NEVER answered anything about water? I saw observers shaking their head as to say 'did she hear the question'? I was right up front and she was even referencing her own mailers for answers? Does she even know what her position is on things? I may agree that the undercard candidates on the Dem ticket presented well, for that I give credit. But they too did not give any real details. The Lyman ticket spoke from the heart. I expect people to think 'their' candidate always wins, but to state that it as an obvious victory is false. Did you all chat this response out at North Star? The supervisor candidate should be embarrassed by her lack of answers at the debate - however, I think that impossible to embarrass her. If you choose to support them blindly, that is fair. But to throw this opinion article on the Voice to mislead those readers who did not attend, is a stretch. And, do you think your 'Romney sign' opener tricks people into thinking you are an independent? No independent would have seen the debates as one sided as you, so do not try to put that one by the readers. View Comment
You totally missed the obvious sarcasm - how stupid. Those social issues are just distractions in this race. And you ramble on with all of them, sucked right into the fuzz. Now that you are on the subject - if you feel so strong about women's rights, what about the 10 and 16 month old females being aborted. Wouldn't it be nice if someone watched out for them? These girls aborted just 5 years ago would be in kindergarten right now. Yes, call it 'choice' if it makes you feel better, but it is a bad one. Child care for working mothers, paid for by the govt??? Smarten up. And your finance expertise, super. Are you really running for a city council seat? That is pretty scary View Comment
Congrats on the vote. I received so much propaganda from 'concerned parents' and various groups I have never heard of, on this vote. Some great scare tactics of how kids may die from mold poisoning if it does not pass. I am sure there is no way to prove it, but I have a 'hunch' that e-mail rosters were provided to these various groups by the BCSD. (Maybe by accident, of course) They will say, 'not a chance' but it is curious that I received 4-5 emails pushing for a yes vote from groups that SHOULD not have my e-mail. That egg is fried now but, you know --- I would not put it past them. Just saying... View Comment
I do not think anyone is bashing MS Boak personally. They should be bashing the Dem campaign manager/advisors, however. When you hear about her every waking move - 'Dem candidate tied her shoe', 'candidate drove past a dirty dumpster', 'PR Dem candidate holding a yoga class for xxx', 'Candidate spearheading human trafficking', 'Dem candidate vows to end light pollution in PR', etc. -- it kind of makes one suspect of focus and her take on reality. I have not read a thing about how she will help with the PR infrastructure, or a plan for waste water removal - which is a core component to adding business in town. It is THE ISSUE. Flower baskets and pretty streets are far more romantic to discuss than waste water, and deer management, I fully agree. But the latter are real, and the ‘sexy’ stuff is a want more than a need. Most important, is why have we not heard why she voted on a $1.85 project before fully understanding all details and long term cost implications? Anyone that voted on this expensive project without proper understanding should be relieved from their job, period - Let alone, trying to run for supervisor. Maybe $2 million is not a lot of money to them, but it is to me. Ali seems to do a lot of good out there, and has a great heart, from what I read. But, I do not feel she, nor the rest of the Democratic ticket will be good for Pound Ridge. BTW, she is a candidate for public office, so she can stomach a little criticism. Ask Sarah or Hillary. This incident was disturbing to watch. I can only imagine being surrounded by a gang of bikers with your wife and young child in the car. This looks like something out of a third world country. A nice Sunday afternoon drive and you get attacked by 50 scumbags. Too bad he did not run over more of them. I am not suggesting everyone carry a gun, but I am sure he would have liked to have one that day. Thank GOD the child or women were not hurt. Lock as many up as possible. View Comment
Get a hold of yourself, M Delaney. The 'drama' -- oh my, how it makes me want to vomit. One day soon, the USA will correct itself from your failure of a leader. Hopefully before we plummet further into mediocrity. This healthcare system does not work in other countries where it has been implemented, and will not work here. I say this from experience. Hopefully you or your family will never have to wait 18 months for an MRI, or an X-ray.
