WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – The Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics kicks off Friday at 4 p.m. EDT, and four Westchester County athletes will take part in the Games.
Gymnast John Orozco, who trained at World Cup Gymnastics in Chappaqua, will take part in a variety of gymnastics events in London. Armonk native and equestrian Reed Kessler will take part in team and individual jumping qualification on Aug. 4.
Lakeland High School graduate and field hockey star Melissa Gonzalez will be part of the U.S. team in Group B at the Olympics. Uzbekistan native Maftuna Tukhtasinova, who trained in Larchmont and Yonkers with the Badgers Swim Club, will swim the 200-meter backstroke event.
NBC will televise the opening ceremonies at 7:30 p.m. EDT Friday.
