Seniors Help Fox Lane Outlast Ossining

OSSINING, N.Y. – Class AA powerhouse Fox Lane was in a close matchup at Ossining on Thursday. When the fourth quarter arrived, senior Will Trawick put the team on his back.

Trawick scored 14 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Foxes (4-1) to a 58-47 victory against the Pride (0-5) in a non-league matchup. He drew two fouls early in the quarter and kept finding ways to get open. His dunk with three seconds left put the exclamation point on the game and sent the visiting fans to their feet.

“He took over,” Fox Lane coach Chris Violante said. “That’s what we need from him. He’s a stud. He’s an excellent player.”

Fox Lane led early but Ossining controlled the game for most of the first half. The game was tied at 36 at the end of the third quarter, but Fox Lane regained the lead early in the fourth thanks in large part to Trawick.

Ossining played a sloppy second half in which they turned the ball over consistently but still managed to make it a two possession game with about :40 to play. But the Pride wasted too much time on its final few possessions and Fox Lane left with the win.

Ossining had a chance to earn its first win of the season Thursday, and they could have done it against a top tier program in their class.

But co-coach Khalid Sales said the opponent did not matter as much as the win.

“I think right now, we’re searching,” Sales said. “Anybody, we’ll take it. A win would have been a win.”

Ossining scored only three points in the third quarter and 11 in the fourth. Sales acknowledged his team’s struggles on offense after the game.

“We’ve had problems scoring this year,” Sales said. “We go through droughts, and we went through a drought in the fourth quarter.”
