Harvey Hockey Loses Tourney Title Game To Host Scarsdale

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The thrill of a last-second first-round victory faded 24 hours later when The Harvey School hockey team could not keep up with a torrid scoring pace of Scarsdale, which won its own weekend tournament with a 9-1 victory over the Cavaliers in the championship game at E.J. Murray’s Ice Rink in Yonkers.

It was exciting as it gets for Harvey when the Cavaliers advanced to the championship game with a 2-1 victory over Monroe-Woodbury High School.

In the title game against the Raiders, Harvey could not stop Scarsdale’s Devon Schell who racked up six goals. James Nicholas added two goals and collected three assists for the Raiders while Matt Blakely had five assists. Harvey avoided a shutout loss when senior forward Robbie Van Raamsdonk scored in the third period.

It was single goals from each of Harvey’s two Rattner brothers of Waccabuc who had helped propel the Cavaliers into the title game. Sophomore forward Theo Rattner got the game winner with 19 seconds left in regulation. His older brother Curtis, a senior, had scored Harvey‘s first goal.

The Raiders had reached the title game with an opening round 5-2 win Saturday against Clarkstown North who went on to lose the consolation game 4-2 Sunday to Monroe-Woodbury.

For Harvey this week, it’s back to the regular season schedule as the Cavaliers gear up for an important game Thursday at home against league rival Rye Country Day. In their first meeting of the season last week, Harvey and RCD battled to a 4-4 tie.
