KATONAH, N.Y. -- The Harvey School’s varsity boys basketball team dropped a tough game to the visiting King School Friday 67-62.

After a thrilling overtime win against league rival Chase Wednesday, Dec. 18, the Cavaliers entered the King game hoping momentum would help lead to a win against the Vikings, a team that defeated them last year by a large margin.

Looking to avenge last year’s lopsided loss to King, Harvey came out with a strong effort and took a four-point lead into halftime, helped by a three-point buzzer beater off the backboard by Deshawn Hilliard.

The second half started off poorly for Harvey as King came out on a 7-0 run to regain the lead. The score went back and forth several times in the second half, but in the last few minutes of the game, the Cavaliers seemed to move away from their identity of working on good ball movement and trying to hit the open man.

“We settled for difficult contested jump shots,” said Harvey coach Dom Narcisco. “We were too selfish with the ball late in the game, and it really came back to hurt us.”

The Cavaliers play their best when they share the ball and look for the open man, which was the case when they defeated Chase earlier in the week.

The leading scorer once again for Harvey was junior guard Ricky Hicks with 22, followed by Hilliard who set a new personal season high of 16. The senior center also led the team with 12 rebounds.

Matt Sherwood’s 22 points paced the offense for the Vikings who had three other players score in double digits.

Harvey, now 3-4, will take a week off for the holidays before playing in next weekend’s Tappan Zee Tournament which also features Briarcliff, Tappan Zee and Valley Central.
