Fox Lane Rowers Bring Home Medals In Season-Opening Regatta

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- Four Fox Lane High School students from Pound Ridge won medals on Sunday, April 17, in the annual Mercer Lake Sculling Championships at Mercer Lake Park, West Windsor, N.J.

The Mercer Lake Sprints featured high school-age athletes from throughout the northeast and mid-Atlantic states competing in approximately 30 events. Each race was 2,000 meters.

For the Norwalk River Rowing Association, Liam McDonough won a bronze medal as part of a team that raced in the men’s varsity four event and also finished third in his team’s flight in the men’s varsity pair.

Amanda Lawrence won a silver medal for Norwalk River in the women’s second varsity quadruple sculls.

For the Maritime Rowing Club, based in Norwalk, Kaare Andersen won a gold medal in the men’s second varsity double sculls and a bronze in the men’s second varsity quadruple sculls. McDonough, Lawrence and Andersen are all seniors at Fox Lane.

Ella Petreski, a freshman who rows for the Connecticut Boat Club, based in Norwalk, was part of two silver-medal teams: the second varsity four with coxswain and the second varsity eight with coxswain.

The rowers will be traveling with their teams to Saratoga, N.Y., this weekend for the annual Saratoga Invitational Regatta.
