Fox Lane, Greeley to Square Off in Tuesday Meet

BEDFORD, N.Y. – The Fox Lane boys swim team, led by Coach Carolyn Johnson, has raced out to a 5-0 record this season.

They will face one of their toughest tests of the season when they enter the pool against Horace Greeley on Tuesday at SUNY Purchase.

After the Foxes’ most recent victory, a 94-89 squeaker against Westlake last Thursday, Johnson offered her thoughts about the matchup with the Quakers.

“If we don’t place first” in each event, “we have to take second, third and fourth,” Johnson said. “Then, mathematically, we can win.”

Johnson hoped that diver Connor Farrell would be able to return for Tuesday’s meet. Farrell has been dealing with a ruptured eardrum.

The coach also stressed that the Foxes must improve in the various relay events.

“Our relays have to be a lot stronger than they’ve been,” Johnson said. “They really have to be on top of their game.”

The Quakers have also torn through their schedule and recently won a non-league road meet 97-84 against North Rockland in which Horace Greeley took first place in eight of the 12 events.

So Johnson knows that Tuesday’s meet will come down to simple mathematics.

“Second, third and fourth is what I’m looking for if we don’t take the win,” Johnson said. “If they do win the event, it can’t be fourth, fifth. It can’t be fifth, sixth.”
