Fox Lane Gains Momentum With Win Over Port Chester

BEDFORD, N.Y. – Fox Lane coach Chris Violante told his team not to overlook winless Port Chester on Thursday before the much-anticipated rematch against Byram Hills on Friday.

His team listened.

Fox Lane (7-1) got some momentum heading into the rescheduled rematch with the Bobcats by handling Port Chester, 70-42, at home.

“I just kept reminding the guys ''Let’s not look past Port Chester even though their record isn’t very good,'” Violante said. “I was trying to constantly remind them ‘I know you’re excited for Byram, but let’s not look by Port Chester.'”

Port Chester (0-7) coach Craig Holcomb had nothing but praise for Fox Lane after the game.

“This is the best team I think they’ve had since I’ve been coaching in Westchester for like the last six or seven years,” Holcomb said.

The Foxes led 37-21 at halftime and continued to build that lead in the second half. Will Trawick and Dylan Peretz led Fox Lane with 12 points apiece while James Morales added 10 points.

Kayson Calhoun led all scorers with 17 points, while Tim Brown added 10 points for the Rams.

Fox Lane used several steals and transition buckets to pad its lead in the second half. Violante said he thought his team was “really, really unselfish in the transition.”

When asked what went wrong for his team, Holcomb responded “pretty much everything.” He added that a loss like Thursday’s could help his inexperienced team grow.

“The better teams you play, the better you get,” Holcomb said. “We definitely improved this game. You see the mistakes we make are pretty evident.”
