KATONAH, N.Y. -- The Harvey School girls lacrosse team and girls softball team continued its game action with losses to near the end of the season.

Harvey’s girls lacrosse team has earned a No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in this week’s Housatonic Valley Athletic League playoffs.

The girls lacrosse team's four-game winning streak on the road ended against Cheshire Academy as the Lady Cavaliers lost 13-10 on Saturday, May 10.

Cheshire plays in the league above Harvey but was given a run for its money by the Lady Cavs. It was an intense back-and-forth battle, but Cheshire was able to hold the lead and secure the victory.

“Our ball movement under pressure showed improvement, and the girls were supporting each other on the field," said coach Greg Janos.

"Defensively, we did a much better job picking up players in the midfield and sticking with our opponents in the defensive zone, not allowing them to run many set plays.”

The quarterfinal bye gives the Lady Cavaliers two days off to prepare for their semifinal game at home Wednesday, May 14.

Harvey’s softball team, winners of three in a row, saw its streak come to an end, with a 16-6 loss to Convent of the Sacred Heart on Monday, May 12.

The Lady Cavaliers, who had averaged 14 runs in their last four games, only had six hits against Sacred Heart.

Sacred Heart erased a 3-2 Harvey lead in the third inning with 10 runs. Harvey made four errors.

The Lady Cavaliers tried to cut the lead with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth, but Sacred Heart tacked on two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to end the game.

Senior Anderson Greenwood was the top hitter for Harvey, collecting three hits. The loss drops the Lady Cavaliers to 4-4.
