Katonah Student Named National Scholastic Writing Medalist

DANBURY, Conn. – A senior at the Wooster School in Danbury was recently named as a 2015 National Scholastic Writing Medalist.

Julia Smith, of Katonah, N.Y., received a gold medal in poetry for “To My Future Daughter, When She Wants to Lose Weight.”

The 2015 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is “the nation’s longest-running, largest, most prestigious recognition program for creative teenagers,” according to a press release from the Wooster School.

Smith was one of 142 Gold medalists in this year’s competition.

Past honorees include Sylvia Plath, Robert Redford, Truman Capote, Joyce Carol Oates, and Lena Dunham.
