John Goetz, Katonah-Lewisboro's interim schools superintendent, announced that the Town of Lewisboro and BOCES are among those interested in using space at the school.

Speaking about the town's interest, Goetz brought up Supervisor Peter Parsons' discussing a possible relocated of “several town functions into that building.”

Parsons is also a member of the Lewisboro Elementary School Utilization Committee, according to Goetz.

The supervisor previously raised interest in using space at the school when he spoke at a September League of Women Voters' event.

“I want to make it a town asset because it's owned by the taxpayers already,” Parsons previously said about the school.

The closed school is in South Salem and is near Lewisboro's Town Hall.

Regarding interest expressed by BOCES, Goetz explained that it would be for "long-range" and "short-range" programs. Referring to the former, Goetz mentioned that this would be for expanded offerings. For the latter, Goetz explained that BOCES may move some of its operations while capital renovation work takes place next summer

Goetz announced the interest at the school board's Nov. 6 meeting. He also gave a status update on the utilization committee, saying that it met twice and is still in early stages. The committee, Goetz explained, has covered zoning matters, legal matters and infrastructure matters. As an example of the latter topic, Goetz cited heating zones. The subjects will be revisited by the committed, according to Goetz.

At its meeting, the school board voted to appoint five additional members to the committee. The new members listed are Tracy Nichols Fergusson, David Cooper, John Wolff, Anne Foray and Constance Bobletz.

According to District Clerk Kimberly Monzon, the other committee members are Goetz; Parsons; school board Trustees Stephanie Tobin and Peter Treyz; Assistant Superintendent for Business Michael Jumper; Paul Christensen, the district's director of Operations and Maintenance; Frank Raposeiro, who is a maintenance foreperson; and School Business Administrator Lee Lew.

The school board's approval of the additional five members was 6-0, with Trustee Scott Posner being absent.

The utilization committee's next scheduled meeting is on Nov. 18.
