The DCISE will serve as a home to the newly created Environmental Studies and Science Department, the Dyson College Nature Center, the Academy for Applied Environmental Studies, and the Environmental Consortium of Colleges and Universities.

Led by Dean Richard Schlesinger, an expert in respiratory toxicology, DCISE hopes to function as a dynamic academic center and resource for the College and University. The DCISE is being established to address major issues in sustainability and resilience, according to a letter by Dyson Dean Dr. Nira Herrmann.

Students will learn about growing urbanization of the 21st century and the impact of these changes on the global environment through programs encompassing research, policy-making, education, and building community awareness on how to manage these issues.
