Landmark Preschool is a division of Ridgefield Academy, a non-sectarian, not-for-profit independent day school that educates more than 600 Westchester and Fairfield County students enrolled across its three existing campuses. This year the school is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Landmark Preschool Bedford will offer comprehensive programs for 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds starting in the fall of 2015.
The three hour school day (9 a.m. to noon) will balance social-emotional, cognitive and physical skill development. Students will receive early literacy instruction, math skill development, science and technology as well as music classes taught by a classroom specialist. The program will also offer outdoor play and cooking activities. Golden’s Bridge resident Ann Hirsch, a 17-year veteran at Landmark Preschool, will direct all student enrollment, facility improvements and curriculum development in preparation for the Bedford program’s Fall 2015 opening.
“We are very much looking forward to partnering with families in the Bedford community," said Hirsch.
"Preschool is often a child’s first experience outside of the home, and is an important time to develop confidence and independence. Our experienced preschool teachers provide differentiated learning strategies to best meet each child’s interests and needs, all in a nurturing and supportive environment."
Students engage in a variety of activities designed to foster a love of learning and develop readiness for reading, writing letters and understanding basic math and science concepts."
Landmark Bedford's program will be housed in the education wing of the historic Bedford Presbyterian Church, the space formerly occupied by The Village Green Nursery School and Bedford Village Nursery School. Extensive renovation of the existing classrooms and outdoor playground facilities will begin this fall. Until renovations are completed, parents interested in the Landmark Preschool Bedford program are invited to tour the Ridgefield, Conn., location.
