KATONAH, N.Y. — The Montfort Academy , an award-winning private Catholic high school in Katonah, will relocate to the Parish of Saints Peter and Paul in the Fleetwood section of Mount Vernon, where classes will begin in September.
"Our move from northern Westchester to southern Westchester will allow Montfort to reach a more numerous and diverse prospective student body," Montfort Chairman Richard Greco said.
Since it was established in 2001, Montfort has consistently ranked among the top 50 Catholic high schools in America. It is currently located at 99 Valley Road.
Montfort's relocation to 129 E. Birch St. will allow more students to enjoy its affordable, classical Catholic education, Greco said.
In addition to a school building built in 1929 that contains 10 classrooms, Saints Peter and Paul offers Montfort students access to Mount Vernon and Westchester County sports fields and convenient transportation access from the Fleetwood train station on Metro-North's Harlem Line.
"Fleetwood is a beautiful section of the city of Mount Vernon, and we are excited to become part of a vibrant, active parish community with genuine pastoral leadership," Greco said.
Montfort has established itself as an authentically Catholic high school that provides a safe and caring environment to students, said Don Alleva, parish manager at Saints Peter and Paul.
The school, Alleva said, "has achieved an enviable track record of academic excellence, spiritual formation and college placement."
Incoming ninth-graders and transfer students are invited to attend open house events at Sts. Peter and Paul, which will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7; noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9; and 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 11 and 12.
Prospective students have until March 1 to apply for admission for the fall. About 75 students are enrolled in Montfort for the 2013-14 school year, paying about $9,500 in tuition.
