SAC participated at a faculty meeting in early December. They addressed the staff assembled in the auditorium and explained the SAC’s new initiative.
Throughout the month of December, wall space was dedicated to the 26 Acts of Kindness. SAC members encouraged teachers to offer their students opportunities to participate in the campaign by documenting their individual acts of kindness. Index cards were supplied for responses, and suggestions were provided for classroom posting. SAC advisers Carol Rumpf and Erin Harrison collected the completed cards, which were displayed on the wall to illustrate the goodness of John Jay students.
SAC member Valerie Smith explained, “We want to demonstrate how John Jay students can participate in something big. Our school may be small, but we want to be a part of it. The wall will serve as a reminder to be kind.”
“We always hear about sad events. It’s good to shed light on the good that exists,” said teacher Erin Harrison.
“Acts of Kindness brings the good into the forefront. The students are hoping that it catches on.”
