“We live in a community that has come together tonight to celebrate our legacy and endow the future of the Byram Hills Stage theater program,” said Varley, who is retiring this year as fine arts director. The benefit raised close to $25,000 for the theater program. Proceeds will go to future productions and the stabilization of ticket prices.
Participating alumni included Pulitzer Prize-winning show composer Tom Kitt and Broadway actor Lauryn Ciardullo.
Following the production, Byram Hills High School Principal Chris Borsari and Superintendent of Schools William Donohue announced that the stage group would be renamed "The Varley Players" and her contributions would be detailed in future playbills.
During her 28-year career at Byram Hills, Varley taught theater and choir before becoming director of fine arts.
