Bedford's Harvey School Students Conduct Bake Sale To Help Veterans

BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Harvey School seventh-grader Emma Spada and some of her fellow schoolmates, spent their Veterans Day conducting a bake sale in front of Weinstein's Pharmacy in the hamlet of Katonah to help raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project.

The girls made $500.25 in sales on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

For Spada and her mother, Tricia Freeman of Katonah, the event was the fourth year in a row that they organized and conducted what they have dubbed as the Annual Veterans Day Bake Sale. Throughout the years they have raised more than $2,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project, a veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, service and events for wounded veterans of U.S. military actions since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

“The town was a little more sleepy than usual, but it was a beautiful day so they took their signs and walked up and down Main Street to attract more foot traffic to our table, and in the end we did better than we did last year," said Freeman. "We are especially grateful to Weinstein's for always letting us set up outside of their storefront."

After the sale, Spada and her friends Lexi Wierdsma, Maelani Groff and Lily Drude, along with Abby Sirota, Kayla Johnson and Victoria Cartularo, brought the leftover baked goods to the nearby American Legion Hall, where they personally thanked the veterans for their service to the country.
