BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Fox Lane Middle School is implementing the Olweus anti-bullying program that asks all community members to avoid being a bystander when they see someone teasing, being mean or otherwise acting inappropriately.
The Fox Lane Middle School community asks people to be an "upstander." The school describes an "upstander" as a person who "stands-up" for his or her beliefs and does what they think is right.
To help symbolize the commitment to being an upstander the middle school has adopted a bow tie logo.
Fox Lane is a partner with the national organization BowTie Cause, which created the "upstander" bow tie logo.
The bow tie logo represents the commitment to being an upstander. The bow tie will be produced this summer and delivered to Fox Lane this September as part of the official launch of the Olweus program.
Fox Lane officials hope every student, staff member, teacher and even parents embrace the upstander bow tie. The goal is to have people wear the logo once a month on designated days to come-together as a positive, supportive and upstanding community.
Bow ties are on sale on the Fox Lane website for a reduced price. Click here to access.
