BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. -- Bedford Hills Elementary School is celebrating Walk/Bike to School and Physical Education Week.

The sixth annual Walk/Bike to School Week runs from Monday, to Friday, May 9. Students are invited to walk with their friends and neighbors from their homes or meet at one of the three meeting points in the community. The meeting points are at Bedford Hills Park on Haynes Road at 8:15 a.m.; The Mews on Harris Road at 8:15 a.m.; and the Bedford Hills Community House on Church Street at 8:30 a.m. The event is rain or shine.

The school is also hosting Screen-Free Week, a nationwide event which encourages everyone to turn off, or reduce the use of, entertainment screens (televisions, handheld video games, laptops, tablet computers, and smartphones) and read, daydream, enjoy nature, get physically active, spend quality time with family and friends, according to a release from the school.

"In celebration of Screen-Free Week, Bedford Hills Elementary will be hosting several nights of activities that you can enjoy with the entire family," school officials said. "The idea is not to banish screens from your homes, but to unplug for a few days (or hours). Why not spend some of that time with us?"

Bedford Hills Elementary School teachers will read their favorite stories starting at 7 p.m. Monday, for a Round-Robin Reading at in classrooms. The week events continue with story telling on Tuesday, May 6, a Family Fun Walk on Wednesday, May 7 and Fine Arts Night on Thursday, May 8.
