Jerome Dimitriou, 55, of Greenlawn, the former executive director, has been charged in two embezzlement schemes, one in which he allegedly embezzled more than $488,000 from one organization by directing subordinates to issue him unauthorized excess salary payments, United States Attorney for the Southern District Geoffrey Berman said.

"In the other, he allegedly charged hundreds of personal expenses to his organization’s credit card, without authorization, costing tens of thousands of dollars," Berman said.

Dimitriou was scheduled to appear in federal court on Monday, Nov. 25.

It is alleged that between 2000 and late 2017, Dimitriou made 204 unauthorized purchases with the organization’s credit card for flights, and personal expenses.

He also made approximately 552 iTunes charges; approximately 71 charges for a gym membership at David Barton Gym; and approximately 44 retail charges, including at such stores as Sears, Home Depot, CVS, Duane Reade, Walgreens, and Vitamin Shoppe.

Dimitriou is charged with two counts of wire fraud. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
