Owners Of Stolen Car Follow Thief Out Of Parking Lot At Fairfield Gym

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — When a Bridgeport man stole a car out of the parking lot of a Fairfield gym, he probably should have checked his rear-view mirror. 

Police arrested Roberto Morales-Rivera and charged him with third-degree larceny and second-degree criminal trover.

Roberto Morales-Rivera, of 160 St. Stephens Road, smashed the window of a 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor in the parking lot of Planet Fitness in Fairfield, police said. He found the keys to the car in a pocketbook, which was inside the car, police said.

Police said Morales-Rivera then drove out of the parking lot in the car, but the car's owners followed him to the P.T. Barnum housing complex in Bridgeport and called police.

Morales-Rivera was apprehended after running from officers, police said. He was arrested and charged with third-degree larceny and second-degree criminal trover, police said.

He was held on $10,000 bond. His court date is July 15, police said.
