Lewisboro Episcopal Parish Welcomes New Rector

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – St. John’s Episcopal Parish has announced that the Rev. Joseph J. Campo has become the 16th rector in the parish’s 253-year history. “Father Joe,” as he is known, began his ministry Tuesday at the parish’s two churches, St. John’s Church in South Salem and St. Paul’s Chapel in Vista.

Campo comes to St. John’s Parish from St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Hartsdale, where he served as priest-in-charge for six years. He has also served previously as associate priest at Grace Episcopal Church in White Plains.

A native of New Rochelle, Campo attended high school in Manhattan and college in Queens. He studied for the priesthood in the Roman Catholic Church in Rome, and was ordained in June 1975. He served as both a parish priest and as a canon lawyer until his resignation in 1997. He and his wife, JoAnne, were received into the Episcopal Church in 2000. After completing studies at the parish and diocesan level as well as at New York’s General Theological Seminary, he was received as an Episcopal priest in 2003.

“I am overjoyed with the prospect of serving the Lord and his people in the faith community of St. John’s and St. Paul’s,” Campo said. “I am looking forward to this new beginning.”

Campo’s first services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Chapel and 9:30 a.m.  Sunday at St. John’s Church.
