Murphy, who has served on the Yorktown Town Board since 2009, is hoping to become senator of the 40th District, replacing Greg Ball, who is not running for re-election.

Murphy is running in the Republican primary on Tuesday, Sept. 9, against former Assemblyman Bob Castelli Tuesday.

The 40th District covers Pleasantville, Armonk, Bedford, Yorktown, Briarcliff, Chappaqua, Cortlandt, Lewisboro, Mount Pleasant, Mount Kisco, North Salem, Peekskill, Pound Ridge, Somers and parts of Putnam and Dutchess County.

Murphy said he is energetic and committed and that his three kids are his life.

"[They] are the reason I want to get New York moving in the right direction," Murphy said. "Like many parents, I am very concerned about their future here and want to make sure they have every opportunity to succeed."

As part owner of a restaurant in Yorktown and the Yorktown Health and Wellness Center, Murphy said the state has to create a climate where small businesses can succeed.

"Small businesses stand as our nation’s engine and government must do a better job of creating opportunities for people to achieve their dreams," Murphy said.   "It’s not easy, but having someone in Albany with the firsthand experience of opening, running and maintaining a businesses would be a step in the right direction."

Murphy, who enjoys golfing when not with his family, said he passionate about causes like raising money for pediatric and pancreatic cancer, as well as combating heroin.

"All of these causes have touched my life in one way or another," Murphy said.  I am committed to strengthening our mental health system, provide Narcan training for all first responders and address the rehabilitation process once in Albany."
