It's the former U.S. senator and secretary of state's second bid for the presidency after she lost the Democratic Party nomination to Barack Obama in 2008.

"Westchester is proud to have Secretary Clinton as a leading candidate for president," County Executive Rob Astorino said. "Mrs. Clinton and I may come from different political parties, but I admire her service and we have always enjoyed a friendly rapport."

"I wish her the absolute best in the Democratic Primary. It would be great to see a Westchester resident as a standard bearer,'' the Republican county executive from Hawthorne said.

State Sen. George Latimer, D-Rye, said, "I think she's a very strong candidate and I support her for the Democratic nomination for president."

Greenburgh Su[pervisor Paul Feiner added, "I'm excited. I think she has the experience and will be a terrific president."

U.S. Reps. Sean Patrick Maloney of Cold Spring and Nita Lowey of Harrison, both Democrats, praised her shortly after Clinton announced her candidacy on Sunday.

U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, both Democrats, also endorsed Clinton's candidacy.

“I am thrilled Hillary Clinton is running and will do everything I can to help make sure she makes history as our first woman president,” Gillibrand said.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo called the former first lady and U.S. senator from New York a “lifelong champion for middle-class families, an advocate for the underserved, and a fighter for civil rights.”

“Her record reflects the steadfast belief that every American, no matter their race, gender or ethnicity, should have the right to achieve economic security and opportunity,” Cuomo said in the statement posted to the state Democratic Party’s web site. “She is a tested leader with the resilience and experience to be a great President.

"I was honored to work closely with her in the Clinton Administration, during a time of historic peace, prosperity and progress for our nation. Having known and worked with her for over 20 years, I wholeheartedly endorse Hillary Clinton’s campaign for President.”

One key Democrat said he's holding off on an endorsement: New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told NBC's "Meet the Press," "Like a lot of people in the country, I want to see a vision."
