In a video interview with Daily Voice, said he would immediately vote to repeal the education program if elected.
"I live, breathe and eat it every night at my dinner table," Murphy said. "One hours worth of homework is now three to four hours of homework."
Murphy said one size fits all standardized testing does not belong in the educational system. Murphy is even running on a party line called Stop Common Core.
The Yorktown councilman is opposing Democratic challenger Justin Wagner. Greg Ball, the current senator, opted not to run for re-election.
The 40th District covers Pleasantville, Chappaqua, Mount Kisco, Bedford, Pound Ridge, Lewisboro, North Salem, Yorktown, Somers, Cortlandt, Mount Pleasant, Peekskill and parts of Putnam County.
