Rep. Maloney Applauds Historic Nomination Of Openly Gay Judge

Paul Feinman is set to make history.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo nominated Feinman to serve as on the New York Court of Appeals. Feinman, who currently serves an appellate judge, would be the first openly gay judge on the court of appeals.

The move was praised by Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-Cold Spring), who represents the 18th district and is the first openly gay member of Congress from New York and a Co-Chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus.

“I want to thank Governor Cuomo for making history and nominating Judge Feinman to be the first openly gay judge on the state’s highest court," Maloney said. Courts should be representative of the people they serve – and because New York has its fair share of LGBTQ people – its courts should too. Judge Feinman is a great choice and a historic appointment, and I wish him the best of luck in his confirmation.”

The Human Rights Campaign said the appointment was great news.

"Thank you, Governor Cuomo, for ensuring LGBTQ people are represented in New York's highest court," the Human Rights Campaign tweeted.
