NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Five days before Tuesday's all-important New York primary election, all five presidential candidates were in New York City on Thursday.
Former New York Gov. George Pataki of Garrison -- who was an early candidate for president -- and Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, were among the 1,000 Republicans at the annual state Republican Party fundraising dinner at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in midtown Manhattan.
Pataki, a Garrison resident and Peekskill native, endorsed Ohio Gov. John Kasich on Thursday night in a live interview on FOX News, while Astorino said he will not endorse anyone but thinks Westchester estate owner Donald Trump will win Tuesday's primary in which 95 delegates are at stake.
Kasich, Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz all delivered speeches at the GOP's black tie dinner, but they were delayed by protests along 42nd Street. Thursday's dinner marked the first time in six weeks that all three Republican Party frontrunners were together since the 12th party debate in Coral Gables, Fla.
Trump, who owns an estate in Bedford, also owns Trump National Golf Club Hudson Valley in Stormville and Trump National Westchester in Briarcliff Manor. The Trump name also adorns Trump Tower At City Center in White Plains, Trump Plaza in New Rochelle, Trump Park Residences in Yorktown and the Donald J. Trump State Park on the Westchester/Putnam border.
Meanwhile, Democrats Hillary Clinton of Chappaqua and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders were in Brooklyn for a two-hour televised debate. Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New Castle was among the top elected Democrats at that event.
Reaction was mixed to Trump's speech. Some applauded with a standing ovation, many remained silent and seated. It was a remarkable schism of opinion, according to one observer.
Kasich went next followed by Cruz. Both delivered stump speeches. Both were good and well received, but they spoke while food was being served, so it was New York noisy.
According to one of the attendees, "Kasich probably won the crowd. He was very good."
Other local attendees included state Senate candidate Julie Killian of Rye and Harry Wilson, a potential gubernatorial candidate from Scarsdale.
